Genre-based Approach to Writing in EFL Contexts

Writing is a challenging and demanding skill for EFL learners in Vietnam. Teaching writing skills at Vietnamese universities problematic since different approaches to have not been implemented effectively. Mainly, genre-based approach has yet classrooms successfully. This paper investigates how the taught learned Van Lang University. The study mentions some critical notions of systemic functional linguistics, approach, importance effects writing. 128 students turned their midterm essays week 5 10-week course. These expository were analyzed synthesized using Microsoft Excel calculate differences move-step structure. findings indicated that had difficulty following fixed structure, they also faced challenges lexico-grammatical usage expository. Hence, suggests implications applying teachers further research.
